The Black & White Notes were a 3-piece band,
Noel McCalla: Lead vocal & Piano
Steve Gunne: Rhythm Guitar
Steve Deal: Drums.
In April 1971 the lead guitarist Dave Thatcher joined the band, and Steve Gunne played Bass Guitar. The manager was the drummer's father. He and his son left the band in 1972, and Steve Gunne's father took over management duties. A new Drummer, Sam Devoil, joined the band, and they changed the name to "Shades of Night". Devoil was then replaced by David Copson. After that, they kept Gigging for about a year and a half, and disbanded in January 1974.
